Cleghorn Road Ride
Sunday, August 21, 2016
7:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Juice It Up
7325 Day Creek Boulevard, Rancho Cucamonga , CA

One of my favorite climbs takes us up a seldom traveled strip of old Route 66 on Cajon Boulevard to Cleghorn Road. This summer Cal Trans made this route even better by reopening the two mile stretch of Route 66, which had been closed since the completion of the 15 freeway through Devore. Old Route 66 is once again intact all the way from San Bernardino to Cleghorn Road without the need for a lengthy detour through Devore. Come explore a brand-new old road with us this Sunday!

Our Sunday rides will continue to meet in front of Juice It Up at the intersection of Day Creek and Baseline in Rancho Cucamonga.

Sunday Rides start at 7:00 am during the summer and are usually led by Les Schoenfelder. These are intermediate paced rides with an average pace of 17 to 18 miles per hour. Helmets are required. Rides will automatically be cancelled if it is raining at the start of the ride.

Cycling Connection Touring 101 for Road Bikes
Ventura Trip – June 2016

Have you ever thought about doing some bicycle touring? Here's our 2nd installment of Cycling Connections Touring 101 for road bikes with a little twist on our typical 3 day trip from point A to point B.

The dates are Friday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26. We will be doing three full day loops from the same location in Ventura. One to the East, one to the South, and one to the North following much of the Cool Breeze route on Sunday. The Sunday loop will have two options if you need to leave early to get back home.

Cycling Connection Spring Century - Mulholland Tour
Sunday, May 29, 2016  8:00 AM

Topanga State Beach
18700 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA (map)

We'll be meeting at the public parking lot at Topanga State Beach on PCH, just west of Topanga Canyon Blvd.  Those looking to carpool should meet me and Les at Juice It Up, 7325 Day Creek Blvd. Rancho Cucamonga, at 6:30 am.

Our route this year will take us up Topanga Canyon and Old Topanga Canyon to Mulholland Highway. We'll head west on Mulholland to the famous Rock Store Scenic Overlook before descending Westlake Blvd. into Westlake Village, where we will stop for lunch. Then we'll take Potrero Road west past Lake Sherwood and through Hidden Valley before descending down to Port Hueneme. Two left turns onto Lewis and Las Posas Roads will return us to Pacific Coast Highway for a beautiful ride east along the coast back to Topanga State Beach.

We now have two complete routes - an 85 mile route and a 65 mile metric century for anyone looking for a shorter ride. If you're worried about it not being a complete century, leave your Garmin at home, mellow out, and enjoy riding your bike! Bring food and water. Although food, water, and restrooms are available along this route, they will inevitably appear at inconvenient times. Our goal will be to stay together in one group with an average speed of approximately 15 miles per hour along the route. Plan on staying for lunch in Malibu following the ride. Cameras are recommended. Helmets are required.
